This change introduces more realistic operations at aerodromes when ATC is offline. Pilots should now use the published Aerodrome CTAF frequency to coordinate with other traffic in the area, including making regular position and intention broadcasts.

What this means in practice?

When no ATC is online, pilots shall:

  • Tune the correct CTAF frequency
  • Broadcast taxi, departure, circuit, inbound, and runway intentions
  • Maintain awareness of other aircraft operating nearby
  • Help create safer and more predictable traffic flow
  • Refer to the VATSIM AIP for published CTAF frequencies
  • Use .ctaf ZZZZ in your pilot client to quickly retrieve the CTAF frequency for an aerodrome

This is an important step toward improving realism and standardisation across the Australia Pacific region. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation as pilots get ready to adapt to the new procedures.
