About the Team
The VATSIM Technology Team is the volunteer group behind the development, maintenance, and strategic technical direction of the VATSIM network — the tools, APIs, and infrastructure that keep thousands of members connected to the network. Our work spans everything from core network services to public developer tools, and we collaborate closely with other VATSIM departments to make sure technology serves the wider community. The Role We’re looking for a Project Manager to help bring structure and visibility to how the Technology Department plans and delivers its work. You’ll be the connective tissue between the developers building the tools and the departments relying on them — keeping projects moving, priorities clear, and everyone informed. This is a great fit for someone who enjoys organizing people and work more than writing code, and who wants to help a volunteer-driven technical team run smoothly. Responsibilities
- Coordinate with other VATSIM departments to gather, scope, and prioritize project requests, ensuring Technology’s work aligns with organization-wide needs
- Act as the primary point of contact between the Technology Department and other departments for project status, timelines, and dependencies
- Develop and maintain a public roadmap of VATSIM Technology projects, keeping the community informed on what’s in progress, upcoming, and recently shipped
- Track project progress, surface blockers, and help the team stay on schedule
- Support project planning, from initial scoping through to delivery and handoff
- Maintain clear, organized documentation of project status and decisions
- Work with the VP of Technology to help set and communicate department priorities
What We’re Looking For
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
- Prior experience in project management, coordination, or a similar organizational role (professional or volunteer)
- Comfortable working independently in a distributed, volunteer environment
- Familiarity with project tracking tools (e.g., GitHub Projects, Trello, Jira, or similar)
- An interest in VATSIM and a willingness to engage regularly with the VATSIM community
- VATSIM membership in good standing required
Why Join?
This is a chance to shape how one of VATSIM’s most active departments plans and communicates its work — and to help thousands of community members see, in real time, how the network they rely on keeps improving.
