Effective 0001Z on 4th December 2024, aircraft entering the Shanwick & Gander OCAs no longer require an oceanic clearance prior to entry.
⚠️ However, pilots must still submit an RCL (Oceanic Clearance Request) via NatTrack 30-90 minutes before the oceanic entry point.
Upon submission, expect the response:
“RCL RECEIVED. CONTINUE TO MONITOR NATTRAK UNTIL ENTERING OCA.”
Key Notes:
Do not change flight level, speed, or route without ATC clearance. Pilots must request clearance for step climbs in flight plans.
Make voice contact with Shanwick or Gander Radio at the oceanic entry point for a SELCAL check and onward frequency assignment.
If unsure, confirm your clearance with ATC.
🛫 This procedural update is implemented tonight on VATSIM to ensure interoperability between Shanwick and Gander, despite a delayed IRL rollout for Shanwick.
Happy flying! ✈️
