Welcome back to another VATSIM SOAR! In this SOAR article we’ll discuss the VATSIM Code of Conduct, with an emphasis on Section B8 (a), (b), and (c).
VATSIM has created a thorough Code of Conduct to ensure a realistic and entertaining environment for both pilots and controllers. This code’s key portions, B8(a), B8(b), and B8(c), highlight how crucial it is for pilots to be proficient, prepared, and to follow air traffic control’s (ATC) instructions. An outline of these important rules is provided below:
B8(a): Competence and Adherence
Pilots are required to have knowledge and experience in operating their aircraft before they connect to the VATSIM network. Pilots are expected to abide by all agreed (read-back) ATC instructions.
Pilots are encouraged to practice offline in order to gain the requisite expertise. If you are unable to follow a complex instruction issued by ATC, feel free to ask for a less complicated option. Remember, reading back an ATC instruction means you understand and agree to abide by it. Unless there is a safety concern (eg, TCAS RA), not complying with an accepted ATC instruction is not permitted.
B8(b): Getting Ready for Takeoff
A successful flight on the VATSIM network requires planning. Pilots are expected to be acquainted with the relevant details of their flight, which includes the planned route, procedures (SIDs/STARs, Approaches), weather conditions and forecasts, and ground layouts of arrival & departure airports.
It is ideal for inexperienced pilots to begin with less complicated airports and simpler aircraft. Proficiency can be achieved by progressively enhancing abilities and becoming accustomed to procedures. It is advisable for pilots to use tools such as ChartFox and SkyVector for chart access.
B8(c): Adherence to ATC Instructions
It is required that Pilots follow fundamental ATC instructions precisely and on time. This includes following hold short instructions on the ground, obeying headings, speeds, altitudes/flight levels, making approaches, and utilizing waypoints and navigation aids to follow cleared routes.
For operations to continue smoothly, pilots and ATC must communicate and comprehend one another. If you did not understand what a controller said to you, do not hesitate to ask them to repeat the instruction (say again) or to send it via text.
Respecting sections B8(a), B8(b), and B8(c) of VATSIM’s Code of Conduct guarantees a realistic, safe, and pleasurable experience for all players. It is recommended that pilots become proficient in their aircraft, plan their flights carefully, and respond to ATC instructions in a timely manner. Members of VATSIM contribute to a vibrant virtual aviation community that emulates the professionalism of actual aviation by abiding by these rules.
